How to make rajma sundal

Ingredients

Rajma-1 cup
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Urud dhal-1 tsp
Asafetida a pinch
Curry leaves and coriander leaves few
Salt to taste
Oil- 1 tsp

For Masala-

Grated coconut-1 tbsp
Green chillies-3
Ginger-1 inch piece
Cumin seeds-1 tsp


Rajma sundal

Method

Soak the rajma overnight.
Pressure cook it along with salt for 3 whistles,drain the water and set aside.
Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds,urud dhal,asafetida,curry leaves and allow it to splutter.
Add the cooked rajma,followed by the powdered mixture saute for a minute.check for salt.Garnish and Serve.

How to make traditional channa sundal or kondaikadalai sundal

Ingredients

Channa -1 cup
Mustard seeds-1tsp
Urud dhal-1 tsp
Asafoetida a pinch
Salt to taste
Oil-1 tsp
Curry leaves and coriander leaves few

For Powder-

Grated coconut-1 tbsp
Ginger-1 inch piece
Red chillies-2 nos
Cumin seeds/jeera-1 tsp

Channa Sundal or Kondaikadalai sundal


Method

Soak the channa overnight.
Cook it in a pressure cooker for 3 whistles along with salt and just enough water to cover the channa,release the pressure and drain the water and set channa aside.
Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds,urud dhal, asafoetida, curry leaves and allow it to splutter.
Add the cooked channa followed by the powder, mix everything well.
Check for salt.saute for a minute . Garnish and serve.

Ingredients

Kollu(horse gram)-1 cup
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Urud dhal-1 tsp

Method

Soak the kollu / horse gram overnight.
Pressure cook it along with salt and just enough water to cover the kollu for 3 whistles.drain the water and set the horsegram aside.
Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds,urud dhal , asafoetida, curry leaves allow it to splutter.
Add the cooked horse gram,followed by the powdered mixture. Mix everything well.
Check for salt.Garnish and serve.

Ingredients

Dried peas-1 cup
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Urud dhal-1 tsp
Grated coconut-1 tbsp

Method

Soak the dried peas overnight.
Pressure cook it along with salt and just enough water to cover the peas for 3 whistles , drain the water and set aside.
Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds,urud dhal, green chillies, asafoetida,curry leaves, ginger and saute for a minute,then add the cooked peas followed by grated coconut.mix everything well.check for salt.Garnish and serve.


Note
You can add raw mango pieces to  this sundal and its also a very famous variety called THENGAI MANGA PATTANI SUNDAL or locally known as Beach sundal in Tamil nadu.

Navathaniyam-1 cup
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Urud dhal-1 tsp
Green chillies-4 chopped
Grated coconut-1 tbsp

Curry leaves and coriander leaves few
Salt to taste

Navathaniya sundal or Nine Grains sundal


Method

Soak the navathaniyam over night.
Pressure cook it along with salt and just enough water to cover the grains for 3 whistles.Drain the water set aside.
Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds,urud dhal,ginger,green chillies, asafoetida,curry leaves and saute for a minute.
Then add the cooked navathaniyam followed by grated coconut.mix well.check for salt.
Garnish and serve.

Then add the cooked dhal,followed by the powdered mixture.

Carrot -1/4 cup chopped
Bush Beans-1/4 cup chopped

Pressure cook it along with salt and just enough water to cover the channa for 3-4 whistles ,drain the water and set the channa aside.
Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seed,urud dhal,ginger,green chillies, asafoetida,curry leaves saute for few minutes.
Add the finely chopped carrot and beans and cook well.
Add the cooked channa followed by grated coconut. Mix everything well.check for salt. remove from fire and add lemon juice.
