About Author

HELLO FOODIES,

"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food"-Hippocrates.

Welcome to Divya’s Nalabhagam, a space dedicated to authentic Indian vegetarian cooking rooted in tradition, simplicity, and nourishment.

I’m Divya, the author, home cook, photographer, and video creator behind this blog. I hold a Master’s degree in Nutrition and have over 20 years of hands-on cooking experience. While I am not a practicing nutritionist, my academic background and years spent in the kitchen influence the way I cook — with balance, mindfulness, and respect for traditional Indian food practices.

Why I Started This Blog

Divya’s Nalabhagam was started in 2016 as a way to document and share homestyle Indian vegetarian recipes that are practical for everyday cooking. My greatest inspiration is my mother, Meena, from whom I learned the foundations of traditional cooking — watching how simple, seasonal ingredients and time-tested methods can create meals that are both comforting and nourishing.

As cooking styles became more complicated and dependent on fancy tools, I felt the need to preserve recipes that work in real home kitchens. Over the years, this blog has grown steadily and now features over 500 carefully developed recipes, all rooted in traditional and basic Indian cooking.

My Cooking Philosophy

I am a locavore and prefer cooking with fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. My approach focuses on simple cooking methods, traditional techniques, and everyday kitchen tools. I do not use hi-fi or fancy cooking techniques or special equipment — my recipes are designed for practical home kitchens.

I strongly believe in the healing and nourishing power of wholesome, nutritious food when prepared thoughtfully and enjoyed as part of a balanced lifestyle. This belief shapes the way I cook and the recipes I share, without making medical or clinical claims.

A Note on Baking

Divya’s Nalabhagam does not focus on baking. This blog is dedicated to traditional Indian vegetarian cooking and everyday stovetop recipes commonly prepared in Indian households.
