Ellu Sadam, also known as Sesame Rice, or Ellodharai is a traditional delicious dish that combines the nutty flavor of sesame seeds with fragrant spices and perfectly cooked rice. To make Ellu Sadam, you will need cooked rice, sesame seeds(black or white), Bengal gram dal, urad dal, dried red chili, mustard seeds, curry leaves, asafoetida, and salt. Additional ingredients like roasted peanuts or cashews can be added for extra crunch and flavor.

To prepare this Ellodharai /sesame rice, first dry roast the ingredients like sesame seeds, urad dal, Bengal gram dal, red chilies, curry leaves and grind to a fine powder. Then heat sesame oil(you can use ghee for extra flavor)in a kadai add tempering, turmeric powder,  cooked rice,  salt, and the required amount of this sesame powder, give everything a good mix until well combined and cook in medium flame for 2-4 minutes. serve.

Ingredients

Cooked rice -1 1/2 cups 
Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
Asafoetida -1/4 tsp
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Bengal gram dhal-1 tsp
Urud dhal-1 tsp
Red chilli-2 nos
Peanuts-2 Tbsps
Curry leaves few
Salt-to taste
Gingelly oil-1 -2 tbsp

To roast and grind 

Sesame seeds (Black or white )-2-3 tbsps
Bengal gram dhal-1 tbsp
Urud dhal-1 tbsp
Red chillies-6 nos
Curry leaves few

Method

👉First dry roast the sesame seeds until they pop and turn aromatic transfer to a mixie jar.


👉Next dry roast other ingredients like urad dal, Bengal gram dal, red chillies, and curry leaves to light golden brown color and transfer to a mixie jar along with sesame seeds and cool down a bit, then grind to fine powder set aside.


👉Heat gingelly oil in a kadai add mustard seeds, urad dal, Bengal gram dal, red chilli, and curry leaves allow it to splutter then add asafoetida, turmeric powder, required salt and mix well.


👉Now add cooked rice and required amount of the ground sesame powder ,mix everything together until well combined.




👉Continue to cook for 2-4 minutes in medium flame and switch off the gas.



👉Serve.
