Toor Dal Uthappam | Thuvaram Paruppu Dosai

Toor dal uthappam is  different uthappam or dosa variety made with toor dal and idli rice.This is an instant dosa .Unlike our regular uthappams it takes hardly under a minute to cook and tastes superb. Idli parboiled rice (idli arisi)-250 gms
Toor dal-100 gms
Fenugreek- 1 tsp
Onions-2 nos finely chopped
Ginger-1 tsp finely ​chopped
Green chillies-3 nos finely chopped
Salt to taste


Wash and soak the rice, dal and fenugreek seperately for 1/2 hour.
Grind everything together to idli batter consistency.
Add salt mix well.set aside for  1 hour.

Heat the dosa tawa add a laddle full of the batter and make uthappams or regular dosas , garnish with onions, ginger,green chillies ,add oil.

Allow it to cook on one side ,flip and cook on the other side too. (It cooks really fast so pay attention) .
Serve hot with onion chutney/coconut chutney​/tomato chutney.

Preparation Time-20 mins
Yeilds-15 uthappams/dosa.

Spicy capsicum rice is a easy and healthy rice variety.It is a simple rice variety and can be done in a jiffy.Check out how to make this yummy capsicum rice recipe below.


Basmati rice-1 cup
Capsicum -1 cup chopped
Onions-2 nos chopped
Garlic-10 cloves
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Redchilly powder-1/2-1 tsp
Coconut milk-1 cup
Cinnamon-1 stick
Bay leaf-1 
Salt to taste
Ghee+oil-1 tbsps


👉Wash and soak the basmati rice for 10 mins.
Drain the water and add it in pressure cooker ,now pour 1 cup of coconut milk and 1/2 cup of water.Add 1 tsp of ghee and 1/2 the quantity of salt .Cook for 2 whistles . Release the pressure . Set aside. 

👉Now simultaneously in a kedai heat oil+ghee add the spices ,onions,garlic and saute well until the onions are half done now add the capsicum and cook it( make sure you don't overcook the capsicum).
👉Add turmeric powder and red chilli powder to it mix well.

👉Finally add the cooked rice and gently mix everything together well. Check for salt .

👉Garnish and serve hot with onion raitha/chips.

Preparation time-15 mins

✍️Cook in low flame .
✍️If you are not comfortable cooking in pressure cooker, cook the rice seperately by boiling it.For this method do not add Coconut milk while cooking the rice (since we will drain the water) but add it while sauteing the onions allow it to thicken to paste consistency then add the cooked rice and mix everything together.
✍️You can add ginger garlic paste too.
