Ingredients

Raw papaya-1 no
Onion -2 nos
Garlic -4-6 nos 
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Urad dal-1 tsp 
Bengal gram Dal -1 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp 
Pepper powder-1/2 tsp 
Curry leaves -few
Salt to taste 
Asafoetida-1/4 tsp
Oil -1-2 tbsps 

For paste -

Grated coconut -2-3 Tbsps 
Small onions-6-8 nos
Cumin seeds -1 tsp 
Curry leaves- few
Red chilies-4-6 nos

Method 


👉Wash, scrape the skin and remove the seeds of the raw papaya and chop to small bite sized cubes .



👉In a pressure cooker add the chopped raw papaya, turmeric powder, salt and 3/4 cup of water and cook for 2 whistles and switch off the gas and allow the pressure to subside.


👉Meanwhile grind a masala paste of grated coconut, small onions, cumin seeds, red chillies curry leaves and very little water( just a tablespoon or two) coarsely set aside .


👉Now open the cooker and drain the water and set the cooked raw papaya aside.(This water will be bitter so avoid using it, moreover I have used very less water so the wastage is meager)
👉Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds, urad dal, Bengal gram dal, red chillies, curry leaves and allow it to splutter


👉Add chopped garlic, onions and sauté well.


👉Now add the cooked raw papaya, ground paste , pepper powder and asafoetida and mix well.


👉Continue to cook for about 5 minutes until the raw smell of the masala goes check for salt and if needed.


👉Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves and switch off the gas.



👉Serve hot .




Preparation Time-30 minutes 
Serves-4-5 depending on the size of the raw papaya
