Ragi kara pidi Kozhukattai


Ragi kara pidi kozhukattai (pronounced kolukattai) is a delicious, healthy, and savoury version of our traditional kozhukattai made with millet ragi. It is a very simple recipe, and 
instead of using regular processed rice flour to make kozhukattai or modak for Ganesh Chaturthi, we use ragi flour to make the dough, which is mixed with tempering and then steamed.Another version of this kolukattai is ragi sweet kolukattai where we add jaggery syrup and make kolukattais. Ingredients

Ragi flour-1 cup
Grated carrots-2 Tbsps
Green chillies-1 finely chopped
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Urad dal-1 tsp
Boiled moong dal-1-2 Tbsps
Grated coconut-2 tbsps
Curry leaves and coriander leaves few finely chopped
Salt-1/2 tsp  
Oil -1 Tbsp

Method-

👉Roast the ragi flour in medium flame for two minutes.Transfer to a bowl set aside.





👉Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves allow it to splutter then add  green chillies, carrot and sauté well and finally add grated coconut and coriander leaves sauté for few seconds and remove from gas.



👉Add this tempering to the ragi flour along with 1/2 tsp salt, boiled moong dal and a tsp of oil mix well .







👉Pour hot water little by little and knead to soft dough.Be cautious as the dough will be hot so allow it to cool for minutes and then knead.




👉Grease your palms with oil, take lemon sized balls roll to small cylindrical shapes and gently press between your fingers so that the impression of your fingers is seen on the dough.




👉Place the Kozhukattai on steamer plate and steam for 15 mins until the kolukattais become non sticky and shiny.Remove from fire.







👉Garnish with grated coconut,carrots, moong dal on top and serve.
