Karnataka style masala puri chaat recipe

This delicious and drool worthy masala puri chaat is a very famous Indian street food or Chaat recipe which originated from South Indian state of Karnataka.This masala puri is a yummy mixture of spicy green peas and potato gravy mixed with small puris along with onions,tomatoes,chat masala etc. It tastes absolutely delicious and its super easy to make. The only pre-preparation required is that you have to soak dried green peas overnight. Ingredients

For masala (Saute in oil and grind to fine paste)
Onion-2 nos
Tomato-2 nos
Ginger -1 inch piece
Garlic-4 nos
Green chillies-2 nos
Coriander leaves handful
Mint leaves handful
Cumin seeds-1 tsp

Other ingredients 

Dried green peas or dried white peas -1 cup washed and soaked overnight
Potato-2 nos skin removed and chopped
Red chilli powder-1 tsp
Dhaniya powder-2 tsps
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Cumin powder-1 tsp
Garam masala powder-1/2 tsp
Amchur powder(dry mango powder)-1 tsp
Salt to taste
Jaggery-1 Tbsp
Oil -1 -2 Tbsps

For chaat preparation

Small puris -1 packet
Onion-2 nos finely chopped
Tomato -2 nos finely chopped
Coriander leaves finely chopped
Chaat masala as required for sprinkling on top
Red chilli powder as required for sprinkling
Lemon juice-1 tsp or as required
Sev/ ompodi as required

Method

👉First saute the ingredients given for masala in 1 tsp oil and grind to fine paste without adding any water set aside.

👉Wash and soak the dried peas overnight.

👉 Now heat oil in a pressure cooker add cumin seeds and saute for few seconds.

👉Pour the ground masala paste mix well.

👉Add turmeric powder red chilli powder dhaniya powder cumin powder,dry mango powder mix everything well.

👉Add the potatoes and soaked dried peas after completely draining the water.

👉Add 2 cups of water and required salt and jaggery mix well and pressure cook for 8 whistles.



👉Allow the pressure to release,then again keep the cooker on gas and mash the gravy very well .



👉Add cup of water again and adjust the consistency.check for salt 


👉Bring the gravy to a boil garnish with coriander leaves and remove from fire .

To Prepare Chaat

👉In a small plate with rim add 5-6 puris and crush them.

👉Pour the gravy on top of the puri generously.

👉Add chopped onion tomatoes ,coriander leaves.
👉Next sprinkle chaat masala and red chilli powder and generous amout of sev or ompodi on top .


👉Add lemon juice on top and garnish with coriander leaves and serve immediately.

Note-

✍️Do not use fresh or frozen peas it won't taste that good.
✍️You can add grated carrots and mango on top if you like .
