Ellu kollu lemon rasam is a delicious and healthy ayurvedic rasam recipe.It is a typical south Indian rasam variety with slight variation in the ingredients used for making rasam powder. In this recipe, two main ingredients horse gram and til are used along with regular rasam masala ingredients. Horse gram is very rich in iron, protein, fibre and calcium.

Til is also rich in protein, iron, magnesium, copper and B complex vitamins.

Ingredients( Dry roast and powder)

Kollu (Horse gram)-1 tbsp
Ellu (Til)-1 tsp
Peppercorns-1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds -1 tsp
Dhaniya seeds -1 tsp
Red chillies- 2 nos
Garlic- 4 cloves
Ginger - 1 inch piece chopped
Curry leaves few
Asafetida-a pinch

Other ingredients

Salt to taste
Lemon juice from 1 lemon
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp
Ghee -1/2 tsp
Curry leaves few
Coriander leaves few


­čĹëFirst dry roast the ingredients given for masala and powder it set aside.

­čĹëHeat ghee in a kadai add mustard seeds, cumin seeds ,curry leaves and allow it to crackle.

­čĹëNext pour 2 cups of water ,add turmeric powder ,ground rasam powder ,salt and bring to a boil.

­čĹëSwitch off the gas and then add lemon juice,mix well.

­čĹëGarnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
