Vazhaithandu mor kootu is a South Indian kootu variety made by cooking vazhaithandu(banana stem) in buttermilk
.It is very easy to cook, nutritious and tasty too.

Vazhaithandu/banana stem-1 cup chopped
Whipped curd(buttermilk) -1 cup
Salt to taste
Oil-1 tsp
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Urad dhal-1 tsp
Red chillies 1 no
Curry leaves few

Grind Together-(Paste)

Grated coconut-1/2 cup
Raw rice -2 tsps
Green chillies -3 nos
Cumin seeds-1 tsp


👉Chop the vazhaithandu and soak it in buttermilk until use (this is done to prevent browning )then drain the buttermilk completely and cook the vazhaithandu in boiling water until its 3/4 th done.
Drain the excess water.

👉Heat a kadai add the whipped curd , ground paste, cooked vazhaithandu,salt and mix well allow it to cook for 2 minutes.

👉In a tadka pan heat oil add mustard seeds cumin seeds,urad dhal,red chillies and curry leaves and allow it to splutter, add this tempering to the kootu. Boil the kootu for another 2 minutes.Serve hot.

👉Tasty and healthy vazhaithandu mor kootu is ready.
