KARTHIGAI APPAM

Karthigai appam is a traditional sweet dish made during the festival of Karthigai Deepam in Tamil nadu.There are many variations of this appam here I have posted appam made with wheat flour and banana which is the easy version and instant to make.

Ingredients

Wheat flour-1 cup
Rice flour- 1/4 cup
Jaggery-1 cup
Banana 1 small mashed
Cardamom powder-1/2 tsp
Baking soda-1/4 tsp
Grated coconut -1/4 cup
Ghee/oil as required.

Method

👉Dissolve the jaggery in 1/2 cup water and bring to a boil and strain it to remove impurities. Set aside

👉In a bowl add wheat flour,rice flour, cardamom powder, coconut,baking soda, and mashed banana mix well, to this add the jaggery syrup and mix everything well. Add water if the mixture is too thick and set aside for 30 mins (or you can use the batter immediately too).The batter should be slightly thick.



👉Heat the kuzhi paniyaram chatti/ pan and pour 1/2 tsp ghee/oil in each kuzhi / pit.

👉Pour a tablespoon of batter into each pit till 1/2 -3/4 th of the height of the pit.


👉Cook one side until golden brown colour in LOW FLAME and flip to the other side and cook.

👉Remove from the mould and serve.
