Rava Pongal | Sooji Pongal

Rava Pongal is a delicious and popular South Indian breakfast dish that is made with semolina, moong dal, and spices. It is a variation of the traditional Pongal dish, which is made with rice and lentils. The semolina, also known as rava or sooji, gives the dish a creamy and soft texture, while the lentils add protein and nutrition.

One of the best things about Rava Pongal is how easy it is to make. The ingredients can be easily sourced and the dish comes together in just a few simple steps. To make Rava Pongal, the semolina is roasted in ghee or oil until it turns light golden brown (I have used readymade roasted rava so I have not roasted it). It is then mixed with cooked moong dal, water, and spices such as cumin, pepper, and ginger. The mixture is brought to a boil and then simmered until it reaches a creamy and smooth consistency.

Rava Pongal is often served with coconut chutney, sambar, or other side dishes for a complete and satisfying meal. It can be enjoyed hot or cold, and is a great option for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Rava Pongal is also a popular choice for people who are looking for a gluten-free and vegetarian option.

In addition to being tasty and easy to make, Rava Pongal is also a very nutritious dish. The semolina is high in protein and fiber, while the lentils provide a good source of protein, iron, and other essential nutrients. The spices used in the dish, such as cumin and pepper, are also believed to have various health benefits.

Overall, Rava Pongal is a delicious, convenient, and nutritious dish that is perfect for any meal. Whether you're looking for a quick breakfast option or a tasty and satisfying lunch or dinner, Rava Pongal is a great choice.
