Beetroot chops

Beetroot chops is a delicious restaurant style gravy variety made with beetroot and ground coconut paste seasoned with spices. It is a very simple dish and can be made quickly. This beetroot chops pairs well with chapati, poori, ghee rice, dosa, idiyappam, appam etc..Check out how to make this yummy beetroot chops recipe below.


Beetroot -1/4 kg

Onion-2 nos

Ginger garlic paste -1 Tsp 

Turmeric powder -1/2 Tsp 

Red chilli powder -3/4 Tsp 

Coriander powder -2 Tsps 

Pepper powder -1/2 Tsp 

Green chillies -1-2 nos

Cinnamon-2 nos 

Cloves-2-3 nos 

Cardamom -1 no 

Bay leaf -1no

Fennel Seeds -1 Tsp 

Curry leaves


Oil -2-3 Tsps 

Grind Together -

Grated coconut -2 Tbsps 

Green chillies -1 no 

Fennel seeds -1 Tsp

👉Grind the ingredients given under Grind together to a paste adding little water set aside.

👉Peel wash and dice the beetroot to small cubes .

👉Heat oil in a pressure cooker add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom ,fennel seeds, bay leaf,  curry leaves and green chilies sauté for few seconds.

👉Next add the onion and sauté well until the onions are half done.

👉Add in the ginger garlic paste and sauté for few seconds.

👉Now add the chopped beetroot and sauté for a minute.

👉Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, required salt and mix everything well. 

👉Pour 1 cup water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles. Switch off the gas and allow the pressure to subside completely.

👉Open the lid and again switch on the gas.Allow the gravy to boil to desired consistency.

👉Add the ground coconut paste. Boil for another 2-4 mins.

👉Finally add pepper powder and garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot .

👉You can serve this as dry, semi dry or as gravy.
