Dhaniya Panjiri

Dhaniya Panjiri also known as Panjeeri is delicious traditional and very popular North Indian style prasad variety made during Krishna Janmashtami.It is a very common Prasad made in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. It is a very simple recipe and  can be made quickly by sautéing and combining dhaniya powder with powdered sugar, grated coconut,poppy seeds, nuts like badam,cashews , fox nuts (makhana)etc. , raisins and ghee. This dhaniya panjiri is a must have Prasad during Krishna Janmashtami festival.Check out how to make this yummy traditional dhaniya panjiri recipe below.


Coriander powder-1/2 cup

Powdered sugar-1/4 cup

Khus khus-1 Tbsp

Grated coconut-1-2 Tbsps 

Badam, cashews -1 Tbsp each finely chopped 


Cardamom powder-1/4 Tsp 

Ghee-2-3 Tsps

👉In a pan heat a Tsp of ghee first roast the finely chopped badam and cashews until golden brown colour remove from pan and transfer to mixing bowl.

👉Now in the same pan add 1/2 Tsp ghee and sauté the grated coconut until it turns light golden brown colour transfer it to mixing bowl.


👉Next in the same pan add another 1/2 Tsp ghee sauté the khus khus until it pops and turns aromatic transfer to the bowl.

👉Now add 1 Tsp ghee and now add the coriander powder and sauté well in low heat until the colour of the coriander powder changes to light brown colour and turns aromatic. Remove from pan and transfer it to the mixing bowl .

👉Allow this mixture to cool down completely and finally add powdered sugar mix everything well and serve.

👉Store it in airtight container and dhaniya panjiri will last for 10-12 days.

Note - 

✍️Roasting the coriander powder perfectly is very important for this recipe otherwise the panjiri will have a bitter taste.

✍️Make sure you completely cool the mixture before adding powdered sugar otherwise the sugar will melt make the panjiri sticky .

✍️You can add phool makhana too.

✍️You can add dried seeds like watermelon seeds,sunflower seeds etc..

✍️Instead of regular powdered sugar you can add powdered rock sugar candy (Kalkandu /Mishri).
