Paruppu Thuvaiyal | Paruppu Thogayal Recipe | Toor Dal Chutney
Paruppu Thuvaiyal Recipe – A South Indian Classic
Paruppu Thuvaiyal, or Thogayal, is a flavorful and nutritious South Indian lentil chutney. Made with simple ingredients and packed with protein, this thick, creamy paste is traditionally served with hot steamed rice. It’s a comforting dish that pairs wonderfully with pepper jeera rasam, vathakuzhambu, or even just a drizzle of ghee on rice.
What makes this dish so special is its versatility. You can use a mix of lentils like toor dal, Bengal gram dal, or urad dal, depending on your preference. Here, I’ve shared a basic Thuvaram Paruppu Thuvaiyal recipe using toor dal—simple, healthy, and full of traditional South Indian flavors.
Tips for Making Perfect Paruppu Thuvaiyal
1. Toast the Lentils Well: Dry-roast the lentils until golden brown to enhance their nutty flavor.
2. Adjust the Spice: Use red chilies or green chilies based on your heat tolerance.
3. Use Fresh Coconut: Adding fresh grated coconut enhances the taste, though it’s optional.
4. Right Consistency: Blend the thuvaiyal to a thick paste for the best texture.
5. Serve Fresh: Thogayal tastes best when freshly prepared and served warm.
