Mullangi chutney/ Radish Chutney / Mullangi Thuvaiyal

 
Mullangi Chutney or radish chutney is a delicious, healthy and traditional South Indian style chutney or thuvaiyal variety which is made with radish,onion, garlic, red chillies and urad dal. This is my family's version of the chutney and goes very well with appam,dosa and idli. Check out how to make this yummy mullangi chutney recipe below.

Ingredients

Radish (mullangi)-1 cup or 2 nos skin removed and chopped
Onion-1 no chopped
Garlic -2 nos 
Red chillies-4-5 nos
Tamarind a small gooseberry sized
Mustard seeds- 1-2 tsps
Urad dal-2 tsps 
Grated coconut-1-2 Tbsps
Salt to taste
Curry leaves few
Oil -1 tsp

Method

👉Heat oil in a pan add 1/2 tsp mustard seeds and 1 tsp urad dal and sauté well.


👉Add onion and garlic and saute for few minutes.



👉Add red chillies.


👉Add radish and cook until the radish is 3/4 done and raw smell goes.sprinkle water if needed.



👉Add tamarind, required salt and saute for a minute.


👉Add grated coconut sauté for few seconds, switch off the gas and allow everything to cool down.


👉Transfer to a mixie jar and grind to a fine paste without adding any water.




👉Now again heat oil in the same pan add 1/2 tsp mustard seeds , urad dal and curry leaves and allow it to crackle, add this tempering to the radish chutney and mix well and serve.

Note-
✍️You can use green chillies too instead of red chillies.
✍️Make sure you sauté the radish well until raw smell goes other wise the chutney will not taste good.
✍️Check the radish before using if it is too bitter avoid using it.
✍️You can use red or white variety of radish.
✍️You can avoid mustard seeds while sauteeing the chutney if you don't like the taste of it.
