Vazhakai piratal

Vazhakai piratal is a delicious and traditional South Indian style stir fry variety. It is made by cooking the raw plantain and roasting it with special spice masala powder until its crispy. It tastes absolutely yummy and is usually served with sambar sadam, rasam, curd rice. Learn how to make this vazhakai piratal recipe below.


Ingredients

Vazhakai (Raw plantain)-2 nos chopped to cubes
Onion -2 nos chopped
Tomatoes -2 nos chopped
Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp
Red chillies -1 no
Salt to taste
Oil -1 tbsp

Dry Roast and Powder -

Cinnamon -1 stick 
Cloves -4 nos
Cardamom -2 nos
Dhaniya seeds-1 tbsp
Red chillies -4 -6 nos
Pepper -1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds(jeera) -1 tsp
Fennel seeds (sombu)-1 tsp

Method

👉Dry roast the spices and grind to fine powder set aside.
👉Boil water in a kadai add the chopped vazhakai(raw plantain), turmeric powder and cook covered for 2-4 mins. Drain the water and set the vazhakai aside.

👉Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds, red chilly, curry leaves and allow it to crackle.
👉Next, add chopped onions and saute well.
👉Add tomatoes cook well.
👉Add the cooked vazhakai , salt and powdered spices mix everything gently.

👉Cook /roast for 2 -4 mins in medium flame. Add oil if needed.
👉Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
