Verkadalai murukku or peanut murukku is a tasty, crispy, crunchy and traditional Indian savoury variety made with processed rice flour and peanuts. Check out the recipe below.

Ingredients

Processed rice flour -1 cup heaped
Roasted and powdered peanut -1/2 cup
Red chilly powder -1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds-1 tsp
Sesame seeds (ellu/ til)-1 tsp
Asafoetida a pinch
Butter/ ghee / hot oil -1 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying

Method

👉First dry roast the peanuts and powder it very finely (or grind it to fine paste adding little water).

👉In a mixing bowl add processed rice flour, peanut powder, red chilly powder, asafetida, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, salt and hot oil and mix everything well.

👉Sprinkle water little by little and make a soft dough. The dough should not be too soft or too hard you won't be able to press it and the murukku will break.

👉Heat oil for deep frying.
👉Grease the inner side of the murukku maker with little oil, fix in the 3 hole murukku acchu(mould).
Fill it with the murukku dough.

👉Press it to murukku shapes on a greased plate or directly over hot oil.

👉Cook until the oil stops bubbling and colour of the murukku changes to light brown colour.

👉Drain the excess oil in tissue paper.
Store in airtight container.
