Kadamba Chutney

Kadamba chutney  or kalavai chutney is a traditional, delicious and nutritious South Indian chutney variety made by sauteing all the ingredients like mint leaves,coriander leaves, curry leaves along with onion, tomatoes , red chillies,coconut, tamarind and grinding to a fine paste.It is called kadamba/kalavai chutney because it is made of variety of ingredients (kadambam in tamil means mixture of things .It also denotes a string of different variety of flowers).This kadamba chutney is highly nutritious, easy to make and tastes superb.Check out the recipe below.

Ingredients

Onion-3 nos chopped
Tomatoes -3 nos chopped
Garlic-6 cloves
Ginger-1 inch piece
Pudina leaves - 1 cup
Coriander leaves -1 cup
Curry leaves -1/2 cup
Green chillies- 3 nos
Red chillies-3 nos
Grated coconut-1/2 cup
Tamarind small gooseberry sized
Salt to taste
Oil-2 tsps
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Urud dhal-1 tsp

Method

👉Heat oil in a kadai add onions ginger garlic and saute for a minute.
👉Next add tomatoes green chillies, red chillies, tamarind and saute well.
👉Add coriander leaves, curry leaves, pudina and saute for a minute.
👉Finally add coconut fry everything for few seconds.
👉Transfer the contents to mixie jar add salt and grind to a fine paste (DO NOT ADD WATER FOR GRINDING).

👉In a tadka pan heat oil add mustard seeds and urad dhal allow it to crackle then pour this tempering over the chutney mix well serve with idli, dosa, rice, poori, chapati or you can spread on bread slices too .
