Pirandai Thuvaiyal

Pirandai thuvaiyal is a very traditional and highly nutritious South Indian chutney variety.
Pirandai is a herbal plant with amazing health benefits.It is called Veldt Grape in English and Hadjot in Hindi.It is a creeper and can grow very easily anywhere.
Only drawback is that it gives itchiness while touching so you have to smear gingelly oil in your hand before touching it .

We can make variety of recipes using pirandai today I have posted a simple and traditional chutney /thuvaiyal variety.

Ingredients

Pirandai(Veldt grape)-1 bunch
Bengal gram dhal-2 tsps
Red chillies-5 nos
Grated coconut-1 tbsp
Tamarind-a small gooseberry sized
Salt to taste
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Gingelly oil-1 tsp

Method


👉Wash the Pirandai well, now grease your hands with gingelly oil (to prevent itchiness) and scrape the outer skin(using a scraper), chop the pirandai and set aside.




👉Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, Bengal gram dal, red chillies and allow it to splutter.
👉Now add the pirandai and cook well until it becomes soft and raw smell goes.Finally add grated coconut and sauté for few seconds and switch off the gas and allow everything to cool completely.



👉Grind everything together along with tamarind required salt and little water to a smooth paste.
👉Serve with idli, dosa, chapati, poori, appam, rice etc..

Note-
✍️Pirandai can be allergic to some people it will cause itchiness so use cautiously.
✍️It can cause throat itchiness too in some people after eating for that do salt water gargling.
✍️Apply gingelly oil on your hands before touching the pirandai .
