Vazhaikai Kootu | Plantain Kootu
Vazhaikai kootu or plantain kootu is a simple kootu variety which is made by combining cooked plantain, dhal and

Vazhakkai(Plantain)-2 nos diced into cubesBengal gram dhal-1/2 cup
Small onions-10 nos chopped
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Asafoetida a pinch
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Urud dhal-1/2 tsp
Oil-1 tsp
Curry leaves few
Coriander leaves few
Grind together-
Grated coconut-3 tbspsRed chillies-5 nos
Small onions-6 nos
Cumin seeds-1 tsp
Method
👉Grind the ingredients given for grinding to a fine paste set aside.
👉Pressure cook the Bengal gram dhal along with turmeric powder, small onions, asafoetida, 1/2 tsp oil and water just enough to cover the dal for one whistle set aside.(don't overcook it)👉Boil the chopped plantain in water until it's 3/4th cooked, drain the excess water and set aside.
👉Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds, urud dhal, and curry leaves and saute for a minute.
👉Then add the cooked plantain followed by cooked dhal, salt and ground paste mix everything well. Cook it for 2 -4 minutes. Garnish and serve hot with rice, sambar, and rasam. It will be a good side dish for chappati too.
