Peas Pulao, also known as Matar Pulao or Pattani Pulao, is a simple, flavorful, and mildly spiced Indian rice dish made with basmati rice, green peas, and aromatic spices. This dish is a perfect choice for days when you want to prepare something quick yet satisfying.
Peas Pulao is a versatile recipe that pairs beautifully with a variety of sides like raita, curries, or even a simple pickle. It’s especially loved for its subtle flavors and vibrant green peas that add both taste and a pop of color to the dish. Cooking it in a pressure cooker makes it even more convenient, saving time while preserving the rich aroma of the spices.
Health Benefits of Green Peas
1.Rich in Protein: Green peas are a great plant-based protein source, making this pulao nutritious and filling.
2.High in Fiber: Peas support digestive health and help regulate blood sugar levels.
3.Packed with Vitamins: They are rich in Vitamin A, C, and K, which boost immunity and bone health.
4.Antioxidants: Peas contain antioxidants that help reduce inflammation and promote overall well-being.
5.Low in Calories: A perfect addition for those looking to enjoy a light yet nutritious meal.
Tips for Making Perfect Peas Pulao
1.Soak Basmati Rice: Soak the rice for 20-30 minutes before cooking to ensure a fluffy texture.
2.Use Fresh or Frozen Peas: Fresh green peas add the best flavor, but frozen peas work just as well. Avoid canned peas for this recipe.
3.Balance Spices: Use whole spices like bay leaves, cinnamon, and cloves for mild yet aromatic flavors. Avoid overpowering the dish with too many spices.
4.Cooking Method: For an authentic flavor, use ghee (clarified butter) for cooking. You can also cook this dish in an instant pot or traditional pan if you don’t have a pressure cooker.
5.Garnish: Add a handful of fried onions, fresh coriander leaves, or cashews for an extra touch of flavor and crunch.
Peas Pulao is an effortless yet elegant rice dish that is perfect for a wholesome meal or as a side for parties and gatherings. Its mild spices and the natural sweetness of green peas make it a hit with both kids and adults. Pair it with a raita, papad, or your favorite curry for a comforting and complete meal.
