Onion Tomato Kara Chutney

This onion tomato kara chutney is an delicious spicy tangy traditional South Indian style chutney variety made with just minimal ingredients like onion, tomatoes, garlic and red chillies. Its super easy to make and goes very well with idli, dosa, poori, chapati, pongal,appam, paniyaram etc.. Check out how to make this spicy onion tomato kara chutney recipe below.


Onion-3-4 nos chopped
Tomato-2 nos chopped
Garlic-3 cloves
Red chillies-5-6 nos
Tamarind-a small gooseberry sized
Salt to taste
Bengal gram dal- 1 tsp
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Urad dal-1 tsp
Curry leaves few
Oil -2 tsps

👉Heat oil in a kadai add bengal gram dal and saute for few seconds until it turns light golden brown colour.

  👉Add garlic and onion saute well .

👉Add tomatoes and saute until they are mushy.

👉Now add red chillies,tamarind and saute for a minute.

👉Add salt .

👉Transfer the contents to a mixie jar allow it to cool a bit and grind to fine paste without adding any water.

👉Now in a tadka pan heat oil add mustard seeds,urad dal, curry leaves and allow it to splutter.Add this tempering to the onion tomato kara chutney  mix well.

 👉Serve along with idli,dosa,chapati,poori, pongal etc .
