Bored of eating regular sambar and chutneys for idli, dosas?
Try this is delectable,authentic and traditional south Indian side dish called Kumbakonam kadappa which is made with moong dhal,
potatoes and special coconut paste.
It is very famous in Tanjore,Kumbakonam regions.
It is one of the best sidedish for idli,dosa,pongal,poori and chapati.
This is my family's version of the the recipe.
I always cook this in the pressure cooker as it saves a lot of time without compromising on the taste.check out how to make this tasty Kumbakonam kadappa recipe below.

Ingredients

Moong dhal-1/2 cup
Potatoes-1-2 nos roughly chopped without skin
Onion-2 nos chopped
Tomatoes-2 nos chopped
Green chillies-2 nos slit
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Salt to taste 
Oil-2 tsps
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Cinnamon-1 stick
Cloves-4 nos
Bay leaf-1

Grind Together-

Grated coconut-1/4 cup
Green chillies-2-3 nos
Khus khus (poppy seeds)-1 tsp dry roasted
Cashews-1 tsp
Fennel seeds (sombu)-1tsp
Garlic cloves-4 nos

Method

👉Grind the ingredients given for grinding to a fine paste set aside.



👉Heat oil in a pressure cooker add mustard seeds, cinnamon,cloves,bay leaf,onions,tomatoes, potatoes,moong dhal, turmeric powder,green chillies, salt and saute for a minute and then add required water just enough to cover the mixture close the cooker and cook for 4-5 whistles .


👉Release the pressure mash everything well then add the ground paste mix well, add little water to adjust to desired consistency and allow the gravy to boil for 2 mins .


👉Garnish and serve hot.
