Pavakkai Murungaipoo Poriyal /Bittergourd drumstick flower stir-fry

One of the most healthiest and easiest poriyal (stir fry )variety made with bitter gourd and drumstick flowers (murungaipoo).

Drumstick plant as a whole has numerous health benefits. In Ayurveda it is considered as an "aphrodisiac herb", the flowers have a compound called TERIGOSPERMIN, which helps in increasing the sperm count, prevents erectile dysfunction and increases fertility.
Thus drumstick is also called Indian viagra.
It is rich in proteins, and vitamins A, C, E.
Rich in calcium, zinc and potassium.

Ingredients

Pavakkai(Bitter gourd)-2 nos chopped
Murungaipoo( drumstick flowers)-1 cup
Onion-1 no finely chopped
Tomato-1 no chopped
Garlic-4 cloves chopped
Red chilly powder-1 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
Jeera-1/2 tsp
Curry leaves few
Salt-to taste
Oil-2 tsps

Method

👉Seperate the flowers from the stalk wash and set aside.


👉Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds, jeera, curry leaves allow to splutter, add onion and garlic fry well, next add tomatoes and cook until it becomes soft.
👉Add the chopped pavakkai(bitter gourd) and saute well until it is 3/4 th cooked (sprinkle water and close with lid and cook).


👉Now add the turmeric powder, red chilly powder and salt.mix well.


👉Add the murungaipoo (drumstick flowers)and saute for 5 minutes .

👉Serve hot.

Note

✍️Usually pavakkai is cooked separately in water with salt and turmeric powder to reduce the bitterness and then the water is drained(but I like the bitterness of it so I have cooked it together ).
✍️You can make murungaipoo rasam,kootu, and plain poriyal without bitter gourd too.
