Thakkali kai kootu / Raw tomato kootu

Thakkali kai kootu is a typical south Indian kootu variety made with raw/unripe green tomatoes, green gram dal n coconut paste. It is a very healthy, tasty and easy to make recipe . Learn how to make this yummy traditional thakkali kai kootu recipe below.


Ingredients

Raw tomatoes -1/2 kg
Green gram dal -1/2 cup cooked
Onion -1 no chopped 
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds -1/2 tsp
Red chilly -1 no 
Curry leaves few
Salt to taste
Oil -1 tbsp

Grind Together

Grated coconut -1/2 cup
Red chillies -2-4 nos
Cumin seeds -1 tsp

Method

👉Pressure cook the dal for 4 whistles mash and set aside.
👉Grind the masala paste coarsely adding little water and set aside
👉Wash and chop the raw tomatoes to cubes set aside.

👉Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilly, curry leaves and allow it to splutter. Add onions and saute well.

👉Add raw tomatoes and cook until they are 3/4 th done by sprinkling water and covering the kadai with a lid.

👉Once the tomatoes are done add the turmeric powder, ground masala, cooked dal and salt mix well and continue to cook for 2-4 mins.

👉Garnish and serve hot.
