Thakkali Gothsu

Thakkali gothsu /gosthu/gojju is a very delicious and traditional South Indian gravy/ side dish made with ripe tomatoes, onion, garlic and spice. It is very easy to make and is usually
served with idli, dosa but goes well with chapati, poori and pongal too.I have already posted another variation of this recipe Click here. Learn how to make this super easy and tasty thakkali gothsu below.


Tomatoes -1/4 kg chopped fine
Onions-2 nos chopped
Garlic -4-6 cloves chopped fine
Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
Red chilly powder -1 tsp
Salt to taste
Mustard seeds -1/4 tsp
Urad dhal -1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds-1 tsp 
Sugar -1-2 tsps
Curry leaves  and coriander leaves few
Oil -2 tsps


👉Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds,urad dal, cumin seeds, curry leaves and allow it to splutter.
👉Next, add garlic and saute for few seconds then add onions and saute well.

👉Add the tomatoes and cook until they are soft and mushy.

👉Add the turmeric powder,red chilly powder,salt and mix well.

👉Add 1/2 -1 cup water and allow the gothsu to boil until the raw smell goes and gravy thickens.

👉Finally add sugar and mix well.
👉Garnish with coriander leaves .
