Wheat appam, Gothumai appam

Wheat appam, also known as gothumai appam, is a delectable and simple instant appam variation. Traditionally, appam is made solely with raw rice. However, in this recipe, I have substituted with whole wheat flour. Additionally, instead of cooking the appams directly in oil which is a time consuming process as we can fry only one appam at a time, I have opted to use a Paniyaram kadai. You can choose whichever method you prefer. Appam is a beloved prasadham (offering) for Lord Ganesha and Krishna so making this wheat appam a perfect choice for the upcoming Vinayagar Chaturthi or Krishna Janmashtami festival.

Ingredients

Wheat flour -1 cup
Rice flour -1/4 cup
Jaggery syrup -1/2 cup
Banana -1 no
Cardamom powder a pinch
Salt a pinch
Ghee-1 tbsp

Method

👉In a mixing bowl add all the ingredients except ghee.Mix well .Add water little by little and make a slightly thick batter.

👉Heat paniyaram kadai add little ghee on each mould.Now pour a small laddle full of batter in to the moulds.




👉Cook in medium flame until you get a nice golden brown colour.Flip and cook on other side as well.



👉Remove the wheat appam from the moulds.serve.
